Loud noise from left of engine & water leak

1999 Vauxhall Tigra
Car: Vauxhall Tigra
Year: 1999
Categories: Leaks & Noises
Have had a loud bearing type noise from left side of engine(when standing in front of car) for a few months now. The car is drivable, just tend to work up the gears quicker to get rid of the noise!

Have had the alternator replaced as this was diagnosed by a mechanic as the problem. Didn't fix it and now I've noticed a slight water leak coming from the same area as the noise. THere is water in the radiator bottle but I feel I am replacing this more frequently than normal. THe engine's temp gauge raises slightly when sitting stationary in traffic.

Have had another couple of mechanics diagnose it could be the power steering pump but after the alternator fiasco, I am reluctant to paying for another unnecessary repair.

Also would the P/S pump cause a water leak and fluctuating temps??

be careful its most likely the water pump that is driven off the cambelt ,if it breaks the belt you will most likely cause engine damage and cost you a lot of money

Hi
tend to agree with the member above that your water pump is at fault. Ensure you change the cambelt as well as the water pump to be sure. Pumps are about £25 and belt around £15
