Egr valve

1995 Vauxhall Tigra 1.4
Car: Vauxhall Tigra
Year: 1995
Variant: 1.4
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi folks. have posted a few probs on here for my tigra. I cleaned the EGR valve today, (Er...... don't lets talk about the back bolt cos i found a very easy way if anyone is interested? let me know ok. it just looks hard but you can do it honest. (so confident i took it out twice.) Anyhow, i did it and now the car runs great without a rev prob or hot start prob. BUT......when i pull up at junctions and drop down a gear it tends to just cut out a bit from 1000rpm to 500 rpm. bit of a flat spot still there but no way as bad. The car is lovey and drives so well but i know there are bad things about the tigra and its design but if you want it to run you will make it and do it for it. I am an engineer and made a new tool so easy to make to get at the bottom back bolt of the EGR valve instead of having 2 people to do it. its very simple and cost you about 3 quid to make it. i donn't know where to post new ideas on this this site but its brill. Thank you for reading this and thank you all who have helped me struggle and fight to keep the nasy cow tigra on the road! (whoever designed and thought about putting so much in a small place should have been shot! bet he had a small lunchbox!!!!???) heheheheheheh

Hi Fenman & all other Tigra mk1 owners!; re: removing the EGR valve, I too had the usual prob. removing the back bolt-I was able to remove the bolt by by using an Allen key{obviously of correct size!};insert the long end of the Allen key into the offending bolt-I used a torch to see what I was doing [first put a small sleeve over the short end of the Allen key]; it is then possible to turn the rear bolt-I also tied a lenght of string to the short end of the Allen key before commencing operations.
It is advisable to hacksaw the end of the EGr valve to enable easy re-fitting[i.e.the back-bolt lug, but allow sufficient metal for the bolt to grip.]
