Hand Brake sticking

2000 Vauxhall Tigra 1.4
Car: Vauxhall Tigra
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.4
Categories: Leaks & Noises
Can anyone suggest a solution or explanation.
When my car has been sat overnight my handbrake "brake" stays put and when I try to pull away it won't move unless I step on the gas. Once I get moving I hear a clunk.

Hi Sharon, common problem, especially this time of year.
Get them stripped and cleaned and they should be good as new.

Brakes shouldn't be sticking .You need to get it checked out . Not sure if that car has pads or shoes at rear . If rear shoes could be a leaking wheel cyl causing shoes to stick to drums .If pads , may be sticking in calliper or linkage sticking .In both cases may be handbrake cable sticking and needing replaced .
