2000 Vauxhall Tigra brakes not working

Car: Vauxhall Tigra
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.6 manual
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
I put my foot on the brake and the brake is very close to the floor but the car is not stopping.
I have to go down in gears and use the clutch and handbrake to stop.
I was told the servo needed to be changed but i was also told and shown a rubber tube at the back of the engine had a split in it and they taped it up. That did help for a bit of time.
The garage then told me that i needed a whole new kit.
Im really confused
I can see the split in the pipe but why would i need a whole servo kit
please help

Sounds like the vacuum pipe requires replacing from your description ,basically vacuum is drawn along this pipe in to the servo to give servo assistance. To the braking effort. Not sure why you req. a servo .I would replace the pipe first then check the brakes, you should get another garage or mechanic,s opinion on this issue.
