2006 Vauxhall Signum car and spanner on start up

You will need to get it scanned and see what shows .

I have checked with my own scanner and there are no codes showing. I have noticed that the spanner light only stays on when it is a cold start, is it maybe something to do with the glow plugs or heater rail?

you have a problem which will develop into a big problem. £250 for parts alone if you speak to vauxhall. but don't worry, it's easy to sort out.
open the bonnet, take off the plastic engine cover, at the front of the engine you will see an aluminium inlet maifold, it has a big air pipe going into it, you need to undo this. then undo the 4 bolts with a 7mm socket, or it could be 8mm. to the left side of the manifold you will see the throttle position sensor, take this off, spray some wd40 in the centre, then spin it around with a screwdriver, now put it back on. to the right you will see the MAP sensor, take this off, it can be a bit tight, but it will pull out, spray some wd40 on an old tooth brush, and give the sensor end a good clean. it will be yellow when it's done. now put the thing back together, shut the bonnet, and start the car.
Engine management light still on????????
Probably, but don't worry about it, the car should run fine now, you will just have a fault stored in the memory.
hopefully, you will now know there is a big difference between a fitter, and a mechanic. main dealers employ brain dead fitters.

Thanks for the idea, I will try it when the weather gives me half a chance. It has suddenly got worse today whilst raining! Typical!!! It took alot of starting at the local supermarket today and driving home it was trying to stall every time I slowed. When I reached home it did stall as I was backing into my parking space, it started again but with alot of turning over and almost sounding like starting on one cylinder then bump starting the others. Getting fed up with this car and stupid Fiat derived engine!

I have a kind of similar problem. Just bought a signum 05 plate 2.2 direct engine It lost power and the spanner thing came up. Managed to pull over and switched it off then on again. Spanner was there and had problems restarting. Have seen on other sites that this is either a throttle problem...or need to chage fuel pump or need to change fuel controller. Do you reckon your solution would work with this problem, Any help appreciated.
