When it is stationary the car should be doing 0 MPG in theory...

Has the average MPG changed?

If it is an auto I would suggest putting in in 'N' while stationary. Leaving it in 'D' puts unnecessary load on things.

Have a look at the air filter - if it's clogged it won't help MPG.

Cheers.

it actually sounds like the car is going through a REGEN on the DPF. Normally the car will do terrible mileage and shoud say 1.0-1.2 GALLONS PER HOUR at idle stationary (not MPG!)

The car needs to be run in third gear, about 60mpg for 25-30 minutes to allow the ECU to complete the regen program.

If after you have done this, it is STILL doing badly, then there is a problem with the DPF and ancillaries, (heated o2 sensor, the pressure sensor circuit on the DPF)

Hope that helps.
