2006 Vauxhall Signum pulsing

Ok, so the latest problem! Whilst driving at normal road speeds, around 40, there is a pulsing or surging feeling coming from the engine and the car physically feels to pulse. Also when idling the revs fluctuate from as low as 400rpm upto 1200.
I have no faith in this car anymore, too many issues, and just before I go on holiday!

Thanks for that. There are no DTC's and no warning lights or dashboard lights appearing to indicate of anything specific. I'm not great with mechanics but do you know of a site with a diagram of this engine with the parts labelled so I can identify them and try cleaning or replacing them?
