Is £166 inc vat a good price to replace a split coolant hose

2003 Vauxhall Omega 2.2 auto

Variant: 2.2 auto

I have no idea if this a reasonable price ? To replace a split hose on my omega 2.2 auto
Apparently the part has to be ordered and I know it's a bit tricky to get to ?

It all depends on what hose , price of hose , where the hose is etc. If that is a dealership price they will be quoting a standard time for the job .Obviously it will be dearer at a dealership as they have higher labour charges than a small independant garage and will fit original equipment parts . You probably could get it cheaper if you wanted to shop around , is it worth the hassle ?

When you take into account that dealerships are charging around £100 an hour labour (give or take a bit), then the cost of the hose - which is not cheap (genuine part), also they will charge for antifreeze to refill coolant--also not cheap.........Yep, it all adds up unfortunately.

I think that is a reasonable price to pay.As some of these coolant hoses are a nightmare to get to especially if at the rear of the engine.

personallyy i would get one from a scrap yard and fit it myself.

Scrappy parts are some times a lottery but you would probably be okay with a hose ,If you wanted to save money,Good idea!Personally I would go new part.

If it's an awkward job to do , you dont want to do it twice by fitting second hand parts that dont last .

"It depends on what hose, how much it is,and where It goes". Really!!!

"It depends on what hose, how much it is,and where It goes". Really!!!

As the poster doesn't mention what hose it is ,I think you must agree that unless the info is supplied , that is a perfectly justified assumption . Unless you are psychic too Sherlock as well as sarcastic . Still you will do anything to get your post count up it would seem .

Life is too short to get needlessly involved arguing with someone like you .So I will leave it to you with your pearls of wisdom like " Get yourself a small extendable inspection mirror and a torch and have a look around "

Took you long enough to answer .I dont know why I would be upset with anything you would say and I wont lower the forum by responding to your childish comments .Night night , flower .

Actually I have better things to do hence my post count is nowhere near as high as yours. But I now realise why so many have stopped posting so like them I shall do the same! I think the site should be renamed in your honour... "Ask Whittinghame" ...

No need to stop posting , your input , edpecially with the Peugeots is always welcome by myself .It seemed strange you would pull out a three day old post already answered by four members to make a sarcastic remark and then spit the dummy out of the pram. The more answers and replies that the members can get is a benefit , provided they are accurate and relating to the problem .Slagging others off and getting personal does no one any good and is not what people want to see .Being retired does give me more time to respond to any questions posed and try and help on the forum which I have tried to do over the last few years to build up the site.No hard feelings on my side if you want to bury the hatchet (as long as it's not in my head ! )and carry on helping the forum .
