i have renewed the head with brand new,plus head gasket, put it all back together and the water system is still pressurising. I think the compresion is leaking into the water jackets some how please help. thank you.

A sniff test will tell you if is leaking or not .

will the sniff test tell me if the head is cracked? could it be possible that the piston liner is cracked thanks

I thought you fitted " a brand new " head ? The test will only confirm hydrocarbons in the cooling system , not the cause .
