driving along and one rear wheel locked up. vehicle recovered home on flatbed, when moving onto and off truck one rear wheel rotating forward one rotating back.
once home jacked up vehicle, with all 4 wheels off the ground selected first gear 2 wheel drive. rear wheels moved but took lots of revs and it was very clunky / jolty, in 4 wheel drive high same thing happened, however in low range the wheels moved freely with no effort.

hi,poss fault with sun & planet gears in rear diff.
suggest take off rear diff cover & check teeth on all gears. before removing diff cover check to see if there is an oil leak if there is this is the most likley cause of the fault. fronteras are prone to diff gaskets leaking. if you find sheared teeth in diff you will need a new unit

hi,i think if it was the transferbox both wheels would lock up not just one, it may pay to check the wheel bearing or brakes stuck on one side.

has there been any noise from the transferbox,
may pay to check the propshaft ujs incase they have dried out and siezed. i cant think of anything else to check thats not a anexpensive job.hope this is of somehelp
