1996 Vauxhall Frontera broken rear diff

Car: Vauxhall Frontera
Year: 1996
Variant: 2771
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
my rear diff has shattered due to lack of oil :( my problem is, i believe, a choice of two but i cannot find a tag on the axle to give me the ratio...
I wondered if anyone can help before i start piecing and counting the broken teeth.

thanks

hi the gear ratio is on a thin alloy tag, this is usually fixed to one of the bolts that hold on the diff cover, the tag is usually painted black and covered in oil or mud, you may have to clean the diff cover bolts to find it

Differential ratios for the Frontera V6 Petrol
« Reply #2 on: 31, October,2006, 22:46 »they are all different.......looking at the back of the front diff from underneath, facing forward you will see the six housing bolts, on the top left hand bolt there is a small square metal tag, with a torch you can see the numbers on it eg;- 4.88 this is the ratio which you need to match,it corresponds with the rear diff ratio which must be exactly the same:D:D:D
