1998 Vauxhall Frontera intermittent engine cutting out

Car: Vauxhall Frontera
Year: 1998
Variant: 2.5 TDS
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Frontera 2.5 TDS
When driving the engine will sometimes cut out and the orange engine management light starts to flash. If I then turn the ignition off it will start again without a problem. This sometimes happens upto three times on a journey or may not happen at all. Any ideas what the problem is would be appreciated.
