Doesn't sound that unusual,
4x4 is for getting out of mud/snow etc,
not for normal road use.
A couple of examples would be a Range Rover that the owner had used the 4X4 to get through some heavy snow and forgot to go back to normal.
well he tore the centre right out of his clutch!
Or the L200 Mitsubishi that I had in a few months back,
In 4 wheel drive it was trying to drive it and me into the pillars of the ramp when I brought it in.
It was like fighting with a monster with it's own idea of where it wanted to go.
It just did not want to drive on the tar but big fun in the ploughed up field next door.
Point I making is yours sounds normal.
though I could be wrong.
