2016 Vauxhall Cascada high engine temperature

Looks like faulty thermostat

The DIC message of "AC off due to high temp" comes up and the TC P0128 is stored.
Cause: After switching off the hot engine the coolant temperature could reach above 130°C. This high temperature causes the thermostat to open until the limit stop and stick in the open position. The measured coolant temperatures in radiator and engine will be rated as illogical which causes the trouble code and also switches off the air conditioning.

Is the car safe to drive?

Kinda " dodgy " running any car when the warning light says it's running hot , not really recommended . I suppose you may get away with a short trip to local shops and back before it started getting too hot and if needed you could sit for a short while till it cooled down again . But really better to get it fixed as it could badly damage the engine if running car when it's overheating

Just another thought , it could also be a faulty coolant temp sensor which may be advisable to get changed at same time of thermostat .

I'm watching the World Cup football and jumping on / off here so not 100% with concentration in replying . If you had a good scanner it MAY show a fault code to verify the cause or not but thermostat and coolant sensor are the usual suspects .
