fill up with water and still on

Possibly a corroded sensor on the cap- makes a short circuit and makes the light stay on. Shouldnt cost too much to fix

yes as phil67 has said replace and job done but first remove the connecting wire and look to see if the light goes out just to be sure there is not a bad earth some where
