Driving home after football about a 60 mile jurney.Hear a strange noise.Pull over as l thought something might be stuck around wheel arch passenger front side .All tyres fine. Car smells of burnt oil no signs of oil leak.Noise continues for the 20 minutes remaining of the journey and smell of burning oil gets worse made it home .waiting for garage to open in morning

Sure it wasn't the DPF regenerating ? It causes tremendous heat / burning smell and engine fan noise at full blast

Thanks for your response, looked under the engine today in the light and seen a hole in the casing of what l think is the transfer box . Going to drop it at garage tomorrow morning fingers crossed ?

Different ball game if that's the cause , hope it can be fixed , can be pricey repair .
