Not Starting, or even turmimg over

-2 this morning, went for a drive to defrost the car for my wife before she went to work, arrived back home parked car on the drive and locked up. Missus went to drive 20mins later but the car wouldn't turn over just a click, thought it may have been the battery so went and bought a brand new one, still not turning over, engine check management light is on and I cant remember if this is normal prior to the engine starting, everything else in the car works fine, alarm light comes on and goes off as normal.
Any help or ideas will be most appreciated.
