2009 Vauxhall Antara oil quality detection

Car: Vauxhall Antara
Year: 2009
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
My garage is asking me to replace all the engine oil 6000miles after its annual service (completed at 12000 miles) because the oil quality light has come on.
Their diagnosis is that the driving conditions have changed and the oil quality is poor. I only drive with my wife and use A roads and motorways - I am not a boy racer or haulage driver.
After questioning their diagnosis I have been told that the oil condition is monitored by a sensor - which has now tripped.
My own thought is that the oil condition is monitored by the engine management computer and that this was not reset during the annual service (the oil change light appeared after 18000 miles - the mileage quoted in the car manual for an oil change)
Can some expert please tell me if the oil quality is detected by a sensor or calculated by the engine computer - I am willing to accept I could be wrong but the sensor story seems dodgy - and expensive at £150.00 for an oil change.
Any help would be appreciated.

me thinks you are correct in saying that the service interval was not reset on the car

The same thing happened to me and my vauxhall garage wanted £60 to reset it on their tech 2 device. However a young mechanic over heard me complain and got in to my antara and turned on the ignition light display panel without starting the engine. He then pressed the accelerator pedal twice to the floor and the light went out Hope it works for you.

Same issue. Took car to my garage were I bought the car. They said the oil quality was the issue & the oil quality sensor says it's time to change the oil. There is no such sensor. It's a mile trip thing which is reset at a service. Basically the trip was not reset at the last service. Iv only done 5k since my last service. My light came on when driving back from Scotland to south of England 500 miles on a motorway. I was also told it's because I don't do enough miles so the oil is contaminated due to the DPF not doing its job. I did a 1400 mile round trip on mostly motorways. HoW can that be. I Was told by a ex Vauxhall machinic, re set the light yourself by depressing the gas pedal with ignition on several time slowly & the light will go out. If the light comes on again fairly soon then change the the oil yourself. Much cheaper than the £120 garages want to charge. Low milage short journeys can bring on the oil change light between services. But most time it's because the service reset trip has not been reset ? No such thing as a oil quality sensor. DPF Yes.
Common sence don't let the garages con you into a oil change for over £100. Oil only cost £30 to £40 max & 15 min to do. That means the garage is charging £60 plus for labour for 15 min work !!!!!
Do it yourself or pay a compatant mate £20.
