2000 Vauxhall Agila timing chain tensioner

Car: Vauxhall Agila
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.2
sounds like the timing chain tensioner has collapsed
estimates indicate that a garage will charge £500+ for the work + £300 for the parts
I have been told that this is an inherent fault in ecotec engines of this period and that Vauxhall should cover the labour for the repair
Has anybody else heard of this?

They did have a problem with timing chains stretching and were sympathetic to cars just out of warranty . But I don't think you have a hope in hell of getting any claim on a 2000 car .
