Cutting out when I slow down

2001 Vauxhall Agila 1.2 16V EST

This has happened twice (on two seperate days) but has been running ok in between these incidents.

I slow down, and the steering feels funny and the car cuts out. The battery, oil and eps lights come on. I can only start the car again by pumping the accelerator - I wondered if it might be the alternator??
any idea?
