2003 Toyota Yaris prepare for helicopter liftoff!

I have a 1.4D 2003 Toyota Yaris with an interesting issue. Yesterday, the noise began: a light hum/chop like a helicopter blade. With acceleration it increases in speed and with deceleration it decreases; at idle, the noise isn't visible even if pressing the acceleration pedal down significantly. With the hood up and the car static, I can't hear any engine issues both in idle and when the accelerator is presses in neutral.
The noise isn't loud at any point, but is visible and the chips grow more powerful as the speed increase. Above 30-40mph it is extremely distracting.
Any advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated! Can someone advise how serious of an issue I'm looking at? Car drives fine, but I want to be safer than sorry.

I'd suggest you get the wheel bearings checked.
All it take is one damaged ball in the race.
Had one come in once that could be heard from around the corner and sounded like he'd run over a cat.

Agree with last responder on wheel bearing .Usually if you flick the steering wheel and transfer load on to that side wheel you will hear a change in the droning noise ..

I would put money on it being a rear wheel bearing but it could also be caused by feathered tyres.
