Radiator

1990 Toyota MR2 GT
Car: Toyota MR2
Year: 1990
Variant: GT
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
Hi, when the engine warms up the radiator is only getting hot at the top half.

Also when I do track days the car sometimes starts to overheat.

I bled the cooling system as per Toyota guidelines and it's the same.

Could it be blocked? and if so is it wise to use high pressure water to clear it out?

Would I be best getting a new radiator?

Cheers

jap cars do have very small cooling cores.you can get the rad recored but some rad rebuilders use very small surface area cores that will do the job ok,but if your doing track days check your getting max cores fitted or a new rad.make sure thermostats ok 1st.

Rmar ,

Could take to rad specialist like http://www.serckservicesmotorsport.co.uk/ and get them to check it out ( or any Serck branch ). Even any other local rad specialist if ne Serck branches near . You can usually tell if it's partially blocked when you remove it by the weight .Every likely hood it may be partially blocked going by year and chasing round tracks on occasions like you do .

Thanks both.

I took it to Arrow Radiators and they did me a really good deal on a new rad.
