hi my son-in-law has a ceased aircon pump on his Toyota lucida diesel 2.2 auto 'the belt just drags over it causing the engine to bounce and run rough 'can he just bypass the air con pulley wheel by putting on a smaller belt or will he have to get another pump 'every now and then the pump spins and the car runs fine'as soon as it stops turning the car runs bad 'thanks tony

is the free wheel siezed on compressor ie when air con clutch disengaged if not just dont use air con if it is seized you will have to replace compressor try second hand unit

hi and thanks the pulley wheel is seized whether the switch is on or off 'its jammed and the belt drags over it causing the engine to rock and starts to stall 'then it will free itself for a couple of seconds then it ticks over great 'then jams again and the car starts rocking'i thought if he bypassed the pulley wheel and does not use the aircon its a cheep fix for now if he can get a shorter belt to fit ? tony

suppose you could if you could find a belt but you have to be carefull altering serpentine drive arrangements try ebay for second hand compressor
