Engine stops for no apparent reason on motorway

Infrequently the car engine stops running on the motorway, it restarts after a few minutes. It has now done the same thing in town.
The main dealer has not suggestions as to what the problem could be. any ideas

you must be going to the wrong dealer as this is a common problem.the crank angle sensor is located between the alternator and engine block it can break down due to the heat.it doesnt put up a code so your dealer wont go to it unless they have had this before.replace and the fault wont happen again.its about 0.5 hrs labour.

Hi, what if this crank angle sensor has already been replaced but that didnt fix the problem? Any other suggestion?
