2004 Suzuki Liana heater not working then overheating

Car: Suzuki Liana
Year: 2004
Categories: Leaks & Noises
for two days the heater has not worked in my liana tonight however the temperature gauge went up to the top as i was driving home. I had the car into a garage today and they say it has the correct coolant in so it may be a problem with the head gasket or thermostat any ideas not happened before
