Misfires when hot

2005 Suzuki Jimny 1.3 jlx

My Suzuki Jimny runs smoothly when cold but once hot it starts to misfire and sounds rough. The mechanic has plugged it in and no faults are shown. Once the car has cooled it starts and runs smoothly again. Ive replaced the catalytic converter thinking that was the cause but it hasnt worked. Any ideas please

Are you able to isolate the misfire to a particular cylinder by carrying out a cylinder balance test,If so you will then be able to swap plug, coil lead etc to rectify/identify fault.

if its an M series engine ie timing chain engine prob the crank sensor
if its a G series engine ie timing belt prob one of the coil packs as knuckles says

I replaced the crank shaft sensor and it worked without any problems. Approximately 120 miles later the same problem has started again. It seems to cough and splutter when I ease off the accelerator then try to accelerate again. It runs as if its misfiring and this seems to be the reason for the exhaust to get very hot. The engine temperature gauge reads normal. Any ideas please before I take a hammer to the vehicle
