Beeping noise

Shortly after buying the car we got an intermittent beeping noise and to cut story short I've just noticed that when beeping starts the temperature guage drops from normal to cold and the radiator fan comes on. Then after varying short lengths of time fan stops, beeping stops and guage goes back to normal.

Sure it's not just the DPF regeneration which is normal ?
