On my dash the boot is indicating to be open, if I turn on my lights it goes off

The boot always shows as open on dash , so no other displays will show up.
The alarms sometimes goes off when I lock the car.
If I turn on lights the boot indicator goes off and the dash displays works normally.

Could be water in boot lock or faulty boot lock . If not that , which is common , check wiring at top of tailgate for damage / breaks
