Knocking when turning

when turning at low speed getting a knocking,sounds like it is coming from the left of centre only if in low gear or reverse, if I dip clutch or knock out of gear noise isn't there, have had all four joints on shaft changed to no avail, when driving at normal commute speeds 20mph or more there isn't a problem any ideas appreciated thanks
