Check fuses ,load test battery and alternator .Should show a fault code though .

Thanx for your reply, had battery tested,it`s fine, alternator is fine, after it came off the diagnostic the battery went low and the mechanic put a booster on and the red light went off and power steering was working only to go off the next day.

That would suggest a battery with a dud / weak cell , but should show up if load tested .Has your mechanic got a battery load tester or was he just reading the battery voltage ? If battery voltage drops too far , steering knackered .
