2006 Skoda Octavia boot door won't close

Variant: 1.9turbo diesel
Push rod on mechanism will not retract
Removed mechanism and put a separate power supply to the unit. Seems to work fine in and out.
Refitted the unit. same problem.

Checked the fuses .
