Car cuts out in cold weather

1997 Skoda Felicia 1.6
Car: Skoda Felicia
Year: 1997
Variant: 1.6
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
To start with, this problem only seems to happen when it is cold weather, but cannot be sure as of yet.

The car starts fine and revs, but as soon as you come off the accelerator, the car will stall.

This also happens when coming to a stop, ie at traffic lights or wherever.

Recently adjusted the throttle cable, as before the car wouldn't be able to tick over, and would just stall constantly, it now, when warm ticks over at about 1000 rpm.

Main worry is that the throttle cable wouldn't just 'adjust itself' so it seems like a temporary fix.

It took 35 minutes this morning to get the car 'warm' enough to run without stalling every two seconds! But seems to run fine when warm.

When really cold, it is not even possible to rev the engine, as it has stalled before getting the chance.

Any ideas? I know its a long shot!

have you changed your plugs, could be a loose plug, wrong plugs, wrong gap, loose lead, try red X in your tank,if its an older skoda,I would also say it could be your choke not working, where you get more fuel and less air, from cold,to aid starting from cold, when warm or on running temp, your car needs less fuel and more air,SAy if you were driving on running temp and you had full choke on,the car would not run right,it would run badly, modern cars now have an engine management system, that sorts everything out, also an idle air control valve, just fitted one of these to a 98 fiesta 1.25 zetec which would not tick over, and cutting out,now ticks over, and drives perfect, hope you get it sorted, good luck

the problem is the cold start sensor is faulty as this tells the engine electronic control unit (ecu) that the engine is cold and communicates with the other sensors there for giving more fuel in cold conditions and when the car is warm it then alters to normal operating temp ie tick over with out cutting out
