1995 Skoda Felicia boot lock needs repair or fixing

The key seems to have no connection with the boot lock mechanism.
The lock catch can be released from the inside and appears to be functioning OK.
But the key cannot release the catch or lock it.
Is this something that can be repaired by a someone (me) who has limited knowledge of cars?
