Overheating

the fan on my car only comes on when the temperature is near the red it only comes on for a few seconds so it is starting to over heat it never goes back down to the middle. i have oil and water in the car. sometime the fan does not come on and it is blowing grey smoke out of the exhaust. any suggestions.

Is your cooling system pressurising? Do you have water in your oil? It sounds like an internal engine leak (probably the head gasket)
