2015 Skoda Fabia fuel gauge?

Variant: 1.2TSI "Ambition" 90hp

A few days ago I filled the tank, and no sooner had I left the petrol station than the fuel gauge started to drop. 9 km later, it was down two tabs. No leaks, as far as I can see, and no smell of petrol. A few kms later it was down to the third last tab, but after a while it went back up by half a tab again.
Does this sound more like the float, the gauge, or something else? Has anyone else had the same problem?

I've heard a lot of complaints with the fuel gauges on Skodas , some were rectified by software updates but I've no definitive answer
