Start/stop

The car will sometimes but not always flash up saying start/stop error. It never flashes up any other lights nor does the engine ever cut out; it always runs smoothly always feel power etc. The car has a new battery and alternator from seat therefore surely would be the correct ones and the problem was occurring before these were changed anyway. I was just wondering if this was a common problem or how much it would be to fix?
