2004 Rover CityRover near side lights blowing fuses

Ok hear goes,

After standing idol for 6 months or so i took car for MOT, found out side lights on near side front, rear, and near side number plate lights all not working, They run from 5 amp fuse which had blown, so replaced it and blew again, So disconected all said light fittings from plugs and put another fuse in and when side lights are swiched on pop goes the fuse again, Looked at the light switch on the stalk seams fine, Any Helpfull info much apresiated

does the same fuse do the number plate lights might be worth checking the bulbs and wiring if yes,also check for trapped wires around the areas where the lights are connected and make sure they have not been trapped by the battery etc
