Engine light on and cars cuttin off I put my foot down to rev up and I have to put it to the floor

Hi engine light on looks like a heart with valves. I start it buit seems there's no power goin through iv been told it sounds like its running on three cylanders. How do I fix this problem.I thought it was something to do with fuel as the smell ov petrol is high but if cylanders arnt working it won't burn but it seems as if fuel isn't goin through but if the cylanders arnt working it won't give as much power what if anyone knows how to fix this as bein a woman garages see me coming thanks
