2000 Rover 75 i need a new engine but what will fit

Car: Rover 75
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.8 manual
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
I have a Rover 75 and it has had the usual head gasket faults , but mine has had it 5 times now and enough is enough .
I love the style and shape of the car and don't want to get rid of it , however if I fit a new engine I don't trust the K series.
So what I want to know is will any other engine fit the Gear box that I currently have fitted , that originaly was on the K series 1.8 . Or will any other complete engine , gearbox and transmision unit fit .

The 2.0 16v engine out of a Rover 220 GSI or even 220 turbo might be worth a look. Sorry I don't know about gearbox and clutch compatability though. I think 200's also used a reliable 1.6 honda engine in the 216gti but that might be a bit gutless in a 75.

I was chatting to a bloke recently who had the V6 Rover 75 (sound nice) which he picked up for a grand at auction. Perhaps you could cut your losses and get one of those?

Cheers

Thanks Rmar I thought of those but again they are K series and somehow I was hoping that some motor guy who had worked for Rover may be able to help .. I thought about the V6 however from what I have seen in the scrap yards they seem just as bad , what I would really like is a cheap BMW Diesel engine that was fitted to thse motors heaven lol , but thanks for your reply much appreciated ..Regards Vortash

the 2.0 litre engine is a t-series engine and this came in turbo form as well.these engines were prone to head gasket failure although not as bad as k-series engine, the bmw 2.0 m47r diesel engine is a good engine, they suffered problems with the lift pump and the tank unit, this uses the same gearbox as you have on your current engine i believe.as with all engine swaps you need to get the ecm and wiring harness to go with the engine you are fitting as well as other parts like fuel pumps and filters,it will be much easier to get a rover 75 diesel as its a lot of work to carry out
