Ignition wont always start

Hi, I have a rover 400,1.6 petrol, I went out shopping the other day, and when got back to the car the key would not turn in the ignition, After 40 mins & still no luck ended up leaving the car there, My husband went to pick it up yesterday, still no joy, then after lowering and raising the steering wheel it decided to start so managed to get it home, turned ignition off, And now it refuses to start again,the key just will not turn, the steering locks is not on,And not had any problems before this, Anyone had any similer problems id be really grateful for any advice, Thank you

Thank You for your reply, Do You know if this an expensize job, This is the 2nd car iv had in 6 months, dont seem to be having much luck, :-(

You could try the likes of Graphite Lock Lubricant which is only £3 from Maplins or something similar , might work .Case of putting in lock and working key back and forth ,but may need new part . Not a major job , you should try a few local , independant garages for a price .
