1999 Rover 400 water bubbling back up through the header water tank

Car: Rover 400
Year: 1999
Variant: 1600 si
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
i had the main hose above the radiator replaced cause the 1 that was on had a split in it and now sometimes when you drive along the engine starts to race a bit and when pull over and check the water level sumtimes it bubbles up sandy brown water and is very hot. there are also times that the water bubbles over the header tank when you are driving and leaves a trail of water. the gauge in the car shows the the temperature is normal. when this happens there is a lot of steam coming from under the bonnet

Hi this sounds like there is air in the water system. When the air gets hot it expands and forces the coolant out.

Ideally the coolant should not be brown - this suggests engine corrosion and lack of antifreeze (just water)

I'd suggest you get it drained, flushed and properly filled with antifreeze and then properly bled of air.

This should sort it. If not get the headgasket checked... Rover K series engines are renowned for this failing. (normally 1.4) Yours is a 1.6 maybe honda engine?

Good luck

check the thermostat is working ok.if you have any oil in the water or vice versa then it is your head gasket

drain and flush the system then bleed out the air,if this doesnt cure it see if your headgasket needs replacing.
