1999 Rover 400 ignition problem

After 14 yrs all of a sudden my Rover 400 will not start unless I press the door unlock button on my keypad......even if the car was never locked prior to starting.....must do this every time.....if I forget and don't either nothing happens or a beeping sound is activated.

Are all the door locks functioning correctly? As it maybe a faulty lock unit.
