Wont Start - No Water

Hi i ran out of petrol (i think) went to get some and put in tank. Car will not start, mechanic had a look and there was no water in it. It is now in garage and they have ran tests however because it will not start they can are not sure what it is and suggest head gasket? Can nayone help as the price they have quoted is over £700

If they are not sure , get a second opinion or it could really cost you , especially if engine has overheated due to water loss .May cause more than car worth . Head gaskets are very ,very common and expensive to do right .
