Windscreen wipers stopped working!

Long story short, I started the car this morning, and I tried to use my wipers and they wouldn't move. I could hear the whirring noise that they make when they're on, but there was no movement. What could be the cause of it, and how can I fix it?? It's just started to chuck it down in Folkestone, help me!

Hi, Have you lifted the bonnet to have a look at the mechanism? It could simply be a case that the retaining nut has come off the wiper arms. Have a look and let me know
