Revving on its own and misfiring

This car has been misfiring and revving up on its own then a smell of petrol in cockpit then it cuts out.......Replaced HT leads and checked spark plugs (fine there). Also how often should coolant last before you have to top up? Im at my wits end with this DOG!!

You dont say what engine is in car . On some models you get problems with stepper motor .Re. coolant , your better testing strength with a hydrometer .
