Rev counter high

Have had my Rover 25 since november,and it has been fine. I've been driving a couple of miles to and from work daily with no problems. Recently drove from Bristol to Liverpool,the car was fine all the way along the motorway,then when arrived noticed a high revving noise when put into 1st and then reverse. I drove back and noticed the rev counter had increased when in high gears,apart from that there were no other problems. I'am not very mechanical,so just wondering what the problem could be!!.

Clutch slipping ?

If you call into garage and ask them to road test car , they should verify if clutch is slipping or not . Then if clutch is slipping , it's a case of getting new clutch assembly fitted .If that's the case , you would be advised to get a few quotes on price before going ahead as prices could vary quite a lot .Could check yellow pages and see if any clutch centres in your area .
