2001 Rover 25 will not rev up

hi,i have just bought a lovely rover 25 on a 2000 plate.picked it up yesterday.started up ok from cold.ran the car for about 40miles no proplems,slight missing in low revs but went ok when excelerated.came to roundabout and she cut out,started up ok but no power would not rev up and kept cutting out.the car would not start at all after a while.i let it cool down for a while and it started up ok and reved up ok.when it got to normal running temp the proplem returned.can any one help me on this

Make sure the coolant level is o.k and cooling system not pressurising , notorious for head gaskets going .Can you not take car back if you only got it yesterday ? or was it a private sale ?
