Poor performance

2004 Rover 25 1.9 manual
Car: Rover 25
Year: 2004
Variant: 1.9 manual
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Last week I drove many miles through floods and on occasions the engine almost cut out but eventually seemed to be picking up OK when driven on the motorway
Now there is a massive flat spot when changing gear and it hardly picks up at all and at low revs is virtually undriveable.
Once it gets to higher revs it is better but nothing like it should be in higher gears
The garage seem puzzled but I am thinking some water or dirt from floodwater may have affected the MAF senser
Can this happen

Depending on depth of water you went through , if it reached belt / pulley it could cause it to jump .
