put diesel in petrol engine ,had tank drained car is going fine but fuel gauge not working now need help.rover 25 1400 cc engine petrol

Depends on how thet drained the tank , seen the tank / fuel gauge sender getting jammed or damaged at times .Could be a coincidence but may need new tank unit .Also seen where not enough fuel in tank and adding another £20 or the likes , cleared fault .
