2003 Rover 25 immobiliser problem???

Ive not driven my car for a few months due to tax running out, but im going to tax it soon so got in to see if it would start (half expected battery to be flat) but its not, my problem is when i put my key in, the immobiliser alarm sounds, so i press the button on key fob to turn it off, then i turn my key, the engine starts then about 2 sweconds later the immobiliser alarm starts again and cuts the engine out! what could be causing this and can it be fixed or do i just need to get a new immobiliser fitted?
